Cyberspace Admission Options in Republic of indonesia

Indonet - Indonesia's First ISP
This folio is generously sponsored by Indonet.

In recent years, great strides have been made in the development of telecommunications infrastructure in Republic of indonesia so that there is at present an enticing array of alternative services providing ever-quicker Net access for consumers in Indonesia. When the internet was launched in Republic of indonesia in 1998 information technology reached 134,000 subscribers; by 2014 that effigy had grown to 80 1000000.

ISPs are Internet Service Providers, who in Indonesia provide email, web hosting and related services. There are many Indonesian ISPs with licenses to operate in Republic of indonesia that offer stable services. Several ISPs are more popular than others due to wider bandwidth, meliorate client service and better pricing. Several international ISPs also offer services or local access numbers in Indonesia (AOL and AT&T), with US dollar fees.

For current information on the cyberspace (in Indonesia), visit this website www.apjii.or.id

One of the biggest differences between ISPs is their bandwidth direction. Most ISPs purchase bandwidth from Indosat, the Indonesian international telecommunications firm. Encounter Explaining Bandwidth.

Choosing an Isp

Non all ISPs are created equal! When comparing various ISPs to try to determine which to subscribe to - look at the following factors:

  • Do an informal polling of friends or on the Expat Forum to come across which ISP they currently utilize and recommend. Enquire them virtually problems they accept had with ISPs they used in the past. At that place are lots of threads on the forum regarding this questions, just practise a search.
  • Inquire various ISPs what their bandwidth is and their current ratio of users to bandwidth. Be forewarned, however, that the Internet access provider's bandwidth isn't the only determining factor of speed. Your phone line, the congestion in phone lines in your neighborhood, your reckoner, your modem, your RAM and numerous other factors must be considered as well. In addition, the number of routers and servers and other mysterious equipment at the ISP tin further slow down or speed upward the connection. Larger bandwidth doesn't necessarily mean faster connections if the ratio of users to bandwidth is high or the lack of servers/routers create bottlenecks in transmissions.
  • Find out if the Isp offers cablevision, ADSL, satellite or wireless connection as options to dial-upwardly.
  • Ask near value packages where you lot receive 1 or more e-mail addresses with a prepare number of hours of usage/connection. ISPs ordinarily offer a bones monthly fee for a fix number of hours, with boosted fees charged per hour for usage over the hours covered in the package.
  • Ask if your ISP has roaming facilities and then that you lot can connect from local numbers in various cities around Republic of indonesia. Also, ask if they accept a web-based electronic mail server that allows you to access your electronic mail business relationship directly from their website. If they do, yous can view, reply and send email from anywhere in the world, without having to telephone call your Jakarta access number to get/send your electronic mail.
  • Call the customer service desk-bound at the ISPs you are because and meet if anyone tin can speak with you lot in English (or your strange language). If you lot have whatsoever problems in the hereafter, yous're going to want to exist able to communicate with the Internet access provider's client service staff to work the problem out.
  • Ask if your Internet access provider has MultiLink adequacy. This is the ability (if yous accept two phone lines) to piggy-back two modems together. Windows Dial-Upwardly Networking has this as standard but information technology is not supported by all ISPs (they demand to allow simultaneous dial-up from the same business relationship). This volition effectively give you twice the speed. Not something you will want to use all the time but may exist useful for periods of high bandwidth usage.

Premium Dial-Up Services

Several of the ISPs offer premium dial-up services to their customers. What you get for the increased cost (per minute or hour) is more successful dial-ups (less busy signals) and lower rate of users to bandwidth, thus faster access.Ask your Internet service provider if they offer this service.

A large step up from Dial-up would be to install a T1 cyberspace line. This is unremarkably only viable for offices, equally the price is pregnant. A T1 line means that the phone company has installed a fiber optic cablevision in your role. While much better than a regular telephone line, the connection is only as practiced every bit the entire route of the line - within and exterior your physical office.

Broadband Net Connections

Simply, broadband Internet connections tin can exist seen equally those that don't utilize traditional phone lines with their 'narrow bands' for transmitting data. Broadband services include co-centric or fiber-optic cablevision, satellite, microwave, and infra-red links access methods. In that location are more than a dozen ISPs offering some sort of broadband admission to their customers in Republic of indonesia. Broadband is about suited for people who use their Internet connexion at least four to v hours a day or for a group of users.

Broadband Cable Connections

Several cable companies offer broadband connections to the Internet through co-axial cable with multimedia capabilities. Your connection to the Net is through a television (or other) cablevision, instead of a telephone line. Broadband cable is capable of carrying multiple channels of rich video, voice and high-speed information, simultaneously. With cable Tv connections, you must subscribe to the cable television programming before you lot tin can receive the broadband cyberspace connection.

The start companies offering this service utilized ATM systems with a cable modem. When it became apparent that this system was inadequate for the growing number of ISPs/subscribers, and with the appearance of new engineering science, most of the multimedia cable networks throughout the world switched over to the DOCSIS system (Information Over Cable Service Interface Specifications). This is the worldwide cable modem standard supported by all major equipment manufacturers. When a cablevision visitor uses DOCSIS, the client has the option of more suppliers to buy/lease the modem from.

While some cable companies claim that their network is capable of transmitting 10 mbps or more, y'all need to accept these numbers cautiously. Yes, the cable company's cables and fiber optic lines may be capable of transmission at that speed, simply once you connect through their system to your ISP, you are limited past your Internet service provider's bandwidth to the Internet. It's not so much the provider, when it's cable; it'due south how many users and how they employ the internet that are on your particular segment that matters.

Some Broadband Service providers:

Advantages of cable internet connection

  • Connexion is always on - 24 hours a day! No need to dial-up to your ISP, no busy signals from the Isp and no wearisome transmissions due to poor phone lines/connections and no unexpected disconnects. No expensive phone bill. Exist forewarned that 24-hour access doesn't mean that the organization doesn't have problems and get shut down for repairs/upgrading occasionally.
  • One charge per calendar month for unlimited access - fees don't increase with usage. Just, you take the added fee of the cable TV subscription.
  • Quicker access. While some cable companies prepare the cable modem configuration upwards to 256 kbps for personal connections, the ISP is only set for 64 kbps, which is the maximum personal connection offered. While this may not be considered a 'standard cablevision connection' overseas, y'all must remember - the standards are notwithstanding being ready in Indonesia as telecommunications infrastructure develops. Another major gene is the expensive international connectedness rates charged to ISPs.
  • The cable can be connected to more than than ane computer in the house. Someone can be watching TV in one room, while some other fellow member of the family unit is surfing the Internet on a computer, or 2 (or more) persons tin can be connected to the Internet simultaneously. Multiple connections within one firm/function necessitate additional equipment installation (and costs).
  • You lot cable provider may offer a choice of ISPs - some ISPs have improve bandwidth than others.

Disadvantages of cable internet connection

  • Must purchase a cable modem to connect your PC to the co-centric cable organisation, as well as a 10BaseT Network Interface Menu (NIC) or USB-to-Ethernet adapter, depending on the installation package.
  • If you accept connectedness problems, it is probable that the complaint will be bounced back and forth from the cablevision company to your ISP'southward client service section several times until the problem is worked out.
  • If you live in a complex/area where many watch cable television in the evenings, expect your internet connection to tiresome down during loftier viewing hours.
  • Always-on cable connections brand it easier for hackers to access your computer. But you tin install a firewall or other security software to safeguard your PC.

Cable Connection Costs

Costs differ for personal or corporate subscribers. For corporate subscribers, broadband cable companies offer packages with unlike bandwidth alternatives, either shared or dedicated. Needless to say, the larger the bandwidth, the college the toll and the greater the number of users the slower the access speed.

How cablevision connections piece of work

Basically your connection to your ISP from your home/office initially runs through the cable company's co-axial cable network. From the cablevision company's system the connection to your chosen Isp is via fiber optic cablevision which is capable of transmitting information at 100 mbps. One time yous take accessed your ISP, your connection then utilizes their bandwidth to the Internet. Levels of service and speed differ from ISP to Internet access provider.

Well-nigh cablevision companies offer their subscribers several ISPs to choose from. Each ISP has different rates and differing packages of service, some including the price of the cable modem and some offering the cable modem for charter. Again, ask friends who apply the cablevision company which ISP they are using and which has the all-time reputation and level of service.

Some offices and apartment towers, especially within the Golden Triangle, offer cablevision broadband connections to their tenants. When choosing lease space, ask the edifice management well-nigh these facilities. Other companies have called to open small-scale offices in Serviced Offices to enable them to accept advantage of the already existing broadband connection.

Over a dozen ISPs now offer broadband services in Indonesia, contact your Internet access provider to encounter what they offer.

Satellite-based Net Access

The hardware needed to connect to the satellite receiver includes a transmitter, usually a small parabola/satellite dish which is used to download data. Depending on the service provider, yous may, or may not, nonetheless utilize an ISP's bandwidth for uplinks, limiting your speed.

Many office and apartment buildings in Jakarta offering broadband satellite admission to their tenants. They connect your role's PCs through a LAN operated past the building management, who has purchased the necessary transmitter equipment for connexion via satellite to the Internet. As with other kinds of access, the speed volition depend on the whether your bandwidth is dedicated or shared, and number of users on the bandwidth.

Contact your Internet access provider to see if they offer satellite access, or telephone call PT Telkom, or Inmarsat for farther data.

Digital Subscriber Line Connexion (DSL and ADSL)

Known as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) these lines are a part of Telkom's Multi-Media Admission project which offers high-speed/e'er-on Net access in parts of several larger metropolitan areas. DSL connections toll more than ADSL because they are Not asymmetric. The download and upload speeds are the same, whereas for ADSL, they are different (and cheaper).

High-speed data transfer over regular phone lines is difficult (if non impossible) in Republic of indonesia, because it requires telephone lines of high quality which are fine-tuned for loftier-speed data transfer and a sophisticated infrastructure. Near existing telephone lines do not meet this criteria.

If your residence/office is within v kilometers of a telephone switching office, and if your neighborhood is already covered by ADSL service, yous perchance able to get a DSL line installed. Check with PT Telkom (Tel. 147) to encounter if your location qualifies.

ADSL uses the same copper wires that run from your phone operator'due south switching part into your house/office. Nonetheless, the circuits have been fine-tuned so that the same phone line tin also transfer digital information at high speed. Yous can go on to utilize the same line for phone conversations and fax transmission while your PC is accessing the Cyberspace.

Providers usually offer unlike classes of ADSL services - and the monthly subscription cost varies depending on the speed, with a one fourth dimension registration cost. Additional fees per minute may be changed, depending on the level of your traffic.

Unfortunately, just like in dial-up connections, you lot will exist charged for both the phone bill and the Internet access connection. You lot even so need to subscribe to an ISP to utilize this service. Contact your Isp to find out if they offer ADSL connections services utilizing Telkom's ADSL lines.

Telkom Speedy

(source credit: Zatni Arbi of the Jakarta Post for materials used in this section)

One expat's experience with Telkom Speedy (August 2014):

I have also fabricated numerous complaints to Telkom about their Speedy services, and tested many different levels of service.

My eventual conclusion was that Speedy is near a WORLD CLASS, and probably the Best VALUE for anyone willing to pay Rp140.000+/month for an internet service. Telkom seems able to practise this because they tin use their existing fixed line infrastructure, while their competitors must either install new cables, or compete for access to the very overloaded mobile telephone infrastructure.

The ONLY Problem is that the service is much slower than what Telkom tells customers they will become. My experiences suggest (and this seems consequent with others) is that the maximum speeds for downloads are almost ever between 10% and 16% of the advertised speeds. However, this is still very good considering average speeds will be over lxxx% of that (from whatever fast data sources).

Complaints well-nigh slower than expected speeds are futile. There is nothing staff tin can do, because the organisation is functioning exactly every bit it was designed. Staff are not told how the organization works, and volition disbelieve any foreigner who describes it to them accurately.

I sincerely recommend expats recognize they would be very happy if only they had been told what to look, accurately and in advance. I propose they should:

  • Assume their download speeds will just 10% of what they are told they will become. Be grateful if they get anything more
  • Compare that ten% against what other available services offering. I expect the correct answer for most would still be that Speedy is past far the best value
  • Connections at local exchanges may exist express, so apply as before long as possible
  • DO NOT complain most getting less than what was promised – they had the technical capacity to make me regret asking too many questions!
  • Pay for a better service if you want faster speeds. Your bodily speeds will be increased in proportion to the advertised speeds of services
  • Restricted speeds simply seem to utilize to your use of the internet. Telkom's pay-TV service (UseeTV) tin can also exist used, without affecting your download speeds
  • Note that speed tests measure out the potential speed of your service, and non the restricted speeds immune for downloads. The first (and usually the only) response to complaints about tiresome speeds is to imply a speed examination proves the service is working correctly.

I used to think speed restrictions were triggered by some unknown of data quotas. I now meet that equally an example of a common fault by recently arrived expats - assuming some sort of logic and integrity must be to explain the actions of a local bureaucracy.

I at present recall the management of Telkom knows it cannot maybe beget to provide all of the services they sell to customers. They (actually) must restrict speeds to prevent their infrastructure becoming overloaded. They accept decided to lie to customers and staff about the being of restrictions – to allow continual adjustments needed to balance the demands of new customers while boosted infrastructure is being rolled out.

Information technology has been a real pedagogy for me. I would accept been spared extreme levels of frustration if I had thought Telkom may desire customers to not know how their organization works, so they may alter it still they delight. I may and then just compared what I was getting to other services, and decided Speedy was by far the best.

Another person'south experience with ADSL via Telkom in Bali:

Our first experience with cyberspace in Indonesia was through the use of a dial-upwards service named TELKOMNet Instan. This service is charged to your monthly telephone nib. Cost per minute Rp 150 (Excluding ten% PPN). Considering we send a lot of email with photo attachments, our phone bill was getting quite high. Likewise, the speed of the connection was sometimes very slow.

I knew that on Java a service called ADSL Speedy was bachelor, Afterward reading an article on the website off Telkom that there was a and so-called soft introduction of this service on Bali, I made inquiries at the co-operative function of Telkom Denpasar. After a quick check by the adult female at the helpdesk to see if our number was in the correct range, nosotros were asked to come to the function to apply for connexion to Speedy.

After filling out the required forms and paying a connection fee of Rp 150.000, nosotros were told that the activation of the ADSL connection would be done inside 2 days! Next, nosotros were handed a listing of approved modem/routers. Included on the list were the addresses of shops that were selling the modems. The nearest shop was next door to the Telkom office. And then off we went.

The model we opted for, a wireless modem/router was not available at the moment.
However, information technology could exist ordered and delivered inside one calendar week. Within the calendar week the modem arrived, was installed, and setup by the technicians. The installation service, including settings made on our two laptops, was included in the buy price.

Though at that place are three packages available on Coffee, in that location is only one on Bali.

After we used Speedy for about 3 weeks, the line went expressionless. with no connectedness and no telephone. After a phone call to Telkom, within thirty minutes ii technicians showed up and stock-still the problem. Evidently, information technology was caused by a bad connection due to the rainy season.

For some reason at the same time the necessary settings of the modem had disappeared. After calling the vendor of the modem again a technician arrived and restored the settings with no charge for their after-sales service!

Upwardly until now we accept simply experienced a ho-hum connectedness one fourth dimension. After inquiring at the helpdesk we were informed that the dull connection was caused by maintenance and backbone problem in the Java-Singapore connection.

And then far nosotros are very pleased with Speedy. Also the service from both Telkomsel and the modem-vendor is excellent. Both times that we encountered difficulties the helpdesk was well-nigh helpful.

Feedback from another Speedy user: I live in Bali and my cyberspace connection is quite OK (2Mbs/512kbs) using Telkom Speedy. Speedy has several available options here.

Wireless Connections

Wireless services connect users to the Internet utilizing wavelan, laser link and microwave. Microwave transmission uses high-frequency radio waves that travel through the air. Because they cannot bend with the curvature of the earth, they can just be transmitted over short sitances. Microwave is ideal for data transmissions betwixt buildings, and can also be relayed through means of dishes or antennas.

Your ISP or computer service provider may be able to aid you in looking at the diverse wireless options and help you to source the necessary equipment. Infra-blood-red links is a preferred method because it does not require any frequency license and is less prone to interference from next links.

Many service providers are at present featuring a DSL and wireless connectivity modem with a USB modem. This modem is perfect for laptop/notebook users and allows them to be connected whereever they go. Be aware that some companies offer meliorate coverage than others and you should inquire every bit to the range of the modem prior to buy to make sure you will not be disappointed in the speed and the areas that yous can utilize the service.

The following communication from an Expat Forum poster explains this option well:

"My ISP has a microwave receiver. For distances up to virtually ii-3 km, and providing there is line of sight to the receiver, this is an fantabulous method of connecting to an Internet service provider 'wireless'. Unfortunately, the microwave hardware is about USD3,500 to purchase, then may merely exist of involvement to companies. There is cheaper microwave hardware available and also capabilities for shared usage with many users on 1 microwave arrangement.

Microwave supports bandwidth up to 2048 kbps, and unlike a phone line there are no media and line rental costs. And then, other than the toll of the hardware, all you pay is for the Internet service provider membership. In Indonesia you as well need a microwave transmitter license, approximately Rp ane,000,000 (USD100) per annum.

I'm based in the Jakarta Stock Exchange building well-nigh 2.five km from my Isp's receiver and accept experienced no problems with a single unit of measurement operating 150 users for Internet plus our own web server with a 256 kbps ISP subscription. Microwave hardware may also exist used for telephone/video calls, usually about twoscore simultaneous calls may exist supported."

Re: Wireless Cyberspace (EVDO using Fren)"I have recently bought a PCMCIA data card that uses the CDMA EVDO cellular line of Mobile-viii. Information technology toll me 3 million for the data card, and i pay monthly around 150,000 Rp for super fast connection. The maximum data rate is 2.4 Mb per second, just i usually go download speeds of around 300 KB/s. The not bad thing nigh this is i can employ this on my laptop and get anywhere in Jakarta and still be able to utilize the EVDO data card with the same speed. There are 3 types of packets to choose from using their services and i opted for the cheapest (200 MB free per calendar month with 2Rp per KB charged if exceeded) parcel and am sofar very pleased with it." August 2006

Wi-Fi Hot Spots

The JiWire Wi-Fi Finder helps you locate WiFi hotspots throughout the world. Information technology too provides assistance in learning to setup and employ WiFi. Alternately, purchase a Hotspot Locator, Wi-Fi Locator or Hotspot Finder device - simply Google those terms. Both the Intego and Hawking hotspot finders observe the strongest betoken and indicate signal strength with lights.

Explaining Bandwidth

Thank you to a company to the Expat Forum (BigJon) for the post-obit explanation of just what bandwidth is!

Definition: bits-per-second manual capability of a channel is called its bandwidth.

"You have to imagine bandwidth as a 'tunnel', in one instance with 50 mbps across. In other words, at any one point in time either a 'packet' of data or many packets of information up to a total of l mbps may pass through together, all at the very same time. Other packets volition be in front and behind these packets only similar passengers getting on a train through a door.

Sometimes, with many users at the aforementioned time the packets of data are squeezed in society that they may fit through the 50 mbps tunnel. This has the effect of slowing down the speed in which y'all receive data.

Very large packets of data are often 'shaped' and so that they fit through the bandwidth aslope other data packets. This also helps ensure the data is received complete as with say program downloads.

Therefore, ISPs are able to sell access to many thousands of people. The trouble arises when they all connect at the same time! All ISPs, nonetheless, claim that usage is monitored and if information transmission speeds regularly wearisome downward then they purchase more bandwidth.

There are some other tricks, such as dividing the total bandwidth across subscriber groups, and then that the truthful bandwidth you have access to is not a total of l mbps, just less. Individual consumers rarely have preferential treatment over corporate customers of ISPs.

Having defended bundle admission is a more than specific method of purchasing bandwidth, whereby you lot are guaranteed a minimum connection speed at all times for a typical package of information.

Other problems also relate to the bandwidth that the portal/gateway you are accessing is able to support, for example the Indonesian Internet Exchange (IIX) and the exchanges of other countries less advanced than say the US and Europe.

Similarly, the medium you use to receive data may slow down the speed. Although fiber optic cables technically permit information to move at the speed of lite, the number of routers between you and the ISP'south gateway volition outcome operation. Similarly, if the medium changes in microwave transmissions before getting to you then this may too outcome performance, specially on a smoggy twenty-four hour period in Jakarta."

Connectedness Speed

At times we all feel a petty 'in the dark' when discussing connectedness-related terminology with our Internet access provider, and nosotros worry that we can easily get the wool pulled over our optics. Often, an Internet access provider will quote a 'typical' connexion speed for their connection. The critical factor in connection speed is the local/international bandwidth ratio. The 56 kbps connexion quoted is only typical from the ISP to their local Gateway. The true factor affecting speed is the international ratio.

This may not exist so important for the domicile user, since well-nigh Internet service provider ratios are pretty much equal (their connection speeds to the international backbones lead to a speed of 3 kbps per user), just this is disquisitional for dedicated or leased-line connections of a greater bandwidth. If y'all really want a fast connection, users should ensure that they ask for a ane:1 or 2:one ratio instead of a standard 4:1 or 8:ane. Y'all volition pay accordingly, so be enlightened of what you are purchasing.

How to Choose

Every bit new Cyberspace admission options open for consumers in Indonesia, we will gain experience in the advantages and disadvantages of i Internet access method vs. another. As we've seen happen fourth dimension and time over again, every bit a new access service becomes pop and lots of people switch over, and so the initial success appears to back-fire with reducing connection speeds for the ever increasing numbers of users utilizing a fixed bandwidth.

What to do?

  • Wait at the available options
  • Decide what you are willing/able to spend
  • Become advice from people using the various options and ISPs
  • ... and make your decision!

As ever, recollect - buyer beware! When a service provider starts saying things like "You lot'll never have a connection trouble once more.", "o more connexion/download headaches" - think over again. The Expat Forum on this site abounds with stories of customers' headaches from nigh all of these Internet connection methods.

Besides, if you see a drastic change in your service, it could exist that there are issues somewhere in the network. If Indosat is having problems with their backbone, then almost everyone is having problems since nearly of the ISPs hire bandwidth from Indosat.

Since no ane enjoys the World-Wide-Wait - we all welcome the services being made available to meliorate our connections to the Internet in Indonesia. The ISPs certainly are striving difficult to amend their service options to their valuable expat and Indonesian customers.

Another expat's feel with high speed connection with Telkomsel'southward Speedy Game connection:

Hi, I am an expat who came to Republic of indonesia from Singapore over a year agone, and after a lot of investigation, figured to go with Telkomsel's Speedy Game connectedness (1mbps) a couple of months back - seems that is the single largest mistake I have made in my life after coming to Jakarta. I use the cyberspace at home infrequently (around 30min a day) but generally download or stream fairly heavily while using the internet from home. Initially the connectedness worked fine and I was getting effectually 100kbps download speed, till a couple of weeks back when connection speed dropped to less than 150kbps, and finally for the past few days to less than 100kbps, ten% of what I pay for!. Numerous calls to the customer support 147 take been fruitless. The back up guys are the most useless I take probably interacted with - they are very polite, but they don't hateful a matter of what they say. They never take ANY action nor ever revert back. 1 thing that they exercise a lot withal, is lying to the client. And I have caught them lying quite oft. Fiddling things like - nosotros called you then many times today/this afternoon (when I never got a single call), our technician came to cheque at your business firm (when my building security confirmed no i had come), information technology's a mass expanse failure (like an apocalypse) but will be resolved in one case yous take complained (WHAT!) ...and more. Well I am even so stuck with this internet trouble provider (maybe that's what I should call them instead of Internet service provider), so would advise ane to check their options. I have heard First Media is far superior (but it's cable based, so I expect it to exist better anyhow).

Some other expat's experience - September 2015

"I have been in Indonesia for 22 years and have had numerous experiences with Internet Service Providers. Indonet, Speedy, CBN, SuperNet and now First Media/LinkNet. In general, they all are delinquent for the services they provide versus the promises they make. My latest battle is with First Media. I moved into a new house in South Djakarta about 1 1/2 years ago. I checked with various ISPs and found the offer from First Media attractive considering of the connection (cable), and Cyberspace Speed offered in combination with a fairly decent TV package. "

"In detail, the Net Services provided are a major thwarting. We have had several service people come up to our house to try to ready things. Recently FirstMedia introduced their FastNet upgrade which I happily practical for because for the Cyberspace the faster the ameliorate applies. They came to my business firm and changed the cable modem which now included a wireless router - which rendered my ain, expensive, router PLUS repeater useless). A couple of days afterwards I noticed that our CCTV system was no longer accessible remotely and I requested our CCTV contractor to check it out. Every bit it turns out the change of the cablevision modem/router also acquired the access port for the CCTV arrangement to be closed, i.e., no more remote access to my CCTV system. When I called/emailed First Media to open the relevant port they informed me that this could not be washed equally they no longer support CCTV remote admission. Every bit I write this I am working from home and again my Internet admission is VERY slow. I have written to First Media with the results of a Ping Examination and a Speed Test. The ping tests rates the connection equally a "D" which it callsl "Concerning. Virtually online applciations will non perform well but should function in some capacity. Test to other servers to confirm." The Ping Test looks for the fastest connection which happened to be a server in MANILA some 1,750 miles away! Opening the Kickoff Media FastNet folio took between ii-iii MINUTES." A frustrated Internet user
